Disaster Recovery
Information technology disaster recovery requires both a plan and information technology facilities and resources. The disaster may be localized, as in the loss of a data center, or more widespread as in the loss of an entire facility due to natural disaster. Disaster recovery (DR) planning, choosing, and provisioning the DR site are major tasks. There are various levels of DR support. A hot site is fully provisioned, staffed and operational and can immediately assume the role of the protected site. A warm site is at least partially provisioned and can assume some functions of the protected site after some period of time. A third party commercial site or a mutual backup arrangement may require some time to load software, data, and become operational. A cold site may be a facility only and may require provisioning with IT equipment.
